Caravans in winter

Built for winter sports
Winter-ready guarantee – Hobby caravans have everything you need for a ski trip. Whether you’re heading to the far north or the Alps – the colder it gets outside, the nicer it feels to come home. Even when it’s minus 20 degrees!
With HobbyConnect, you can preheat your caravan to your preferred temperature, activate the underfloor heating and bathe the interior in warm ambient lighting – before you even step inside. The entrance area features a heated coat rack, so you won’t have to bring wet winter gear into the caravan or put on cold clothes the next morning.

Depending on the model, Hobby caravans offer a range of heating options – from classic gas-fired heating to combination systems and comfortable hot water heaters. And of course, you won’t have to miss out on a warm shower during winter holidays either, as all vehicles come with a hot water supply as standard.
All Hobby caravans are available with electric underfloor heating. The heating foils in the walking area of the floor prevent thermal bridges and cold feet.

TRUMA S 3004 gas heater and boiler
The tried-and-tested gas heater with warm air system quickly heats up the vehicle’s interior. A powerful 12 V fan with booster function distributes warm air efficiently – ideal for cold nights.
The tried-and-tested TRUMA heating unit with a 5-litre capacity uses the warm air from the heater to heat the water. An electric heating element also heats the water, however, when the heating is not turned on.
TRUMA Ultraheat electric auxiliary heater (optional)
The additional electric heater warms up the vehicle quickly and reliably. Depending on your individual heating requirements, one of three operating levels can be selected: 500 W, 1000 W or 2000 W. In the spring or autumn, Truma Ultraheat can be used on its own to heat the vehicle. On colder days, the S heater can be used as well. Be prepared, whatever the temperature, season or energy source.

Combi hot air heating system TRUMA
The powerful TRUMA Combi heaters distribute warm air evenly throughout the vehicle via hot air pipes, keeping the interior cosy. The integrated water boiler has a ten-litre capacity and is equipped with a frost monitor valve, which ensures that the water system is drained automatically at low temperatures to prevent frost damage. This lets you enjoy relaxed and worry-free holidays in your warm and cosy Hobby caravan all year round – even in the depths of winter.
TRUMA Combi 6 E gas/electric heater (optional)
Gas or electric – the optional Combi 6 E uses both energy sources to provide hot water and a cosy temperature. In mixed mode, it shortens the heating time by up to 25%. In addition, it’s characterised by its extremely low energy consumption.

ALDE COMPACT 3030 HE hot water heater (optional)
The hot water heater ALDE 3030 HE with a total power output of 8500 watts and an integrated 8.4-litre boiler is available from type 545. Heating and water heating can be activated both simultaneously and independently of one another.
ALDE hot water underfloor heating (optional)
The ALDE hot water underfloor heating system offers maximum comfort. In combination with the ALDE hot water heater, the floor is heated by a network of pipes circulating warm water. In conjunction with radiator panels, the heat is distributed throughout the floor of the vehicle.

Lasting warmth
All Hobby motorhomes are built to handle cold climates and winter conditions. The 42 mm-thick GRP floor with high-quality XPS heat insulation offers significantly better thermal properties than conventional Styrofoam, creating a cosy interior climate – even when the outside temperature falls below freezing. The tough GRP underfloor coating provides long-term protection against moisture and rot – so you can enjoy your vehicle with confidence for years to come.
Hot air pipes in the double floor beneath the seating lounge provide gentle, indirect underfloor heating. At the same time, natural winter vents between the insulated bodywork and interior furniture reliably prevent a build-up of condensation.

Insulation that works
Cosy comfort even on cold days: the 23mm-thick van floor features high-grade XPS heat insulation and a durable GRP coating underneath to protect against moisture and rot.
The all-round B6 high-performance insulation with a material thickness of 5 to 10 mm ensures stable interior temperatures throughout the entire body section – including structural frames and smaller surfaces – and prevents thermal bridging.

Weatherproof from top to bottom
The roof of Hobby motorhomes is also reinforced with GRP, making it highly resistant to hail damage. The roof vent is fully sealed and keeps out wind and water – even while driving. The carefully designed roof contours also ensure controlled drainage of rainwater. A standout feature is the roof scoop, which is fully insulated with PU foam to effectively prevent condensation. Reinforcing elements made from PU foam add structural strength to both the roof scoop and the entire roof.
Additional insulation and protection are provided by insulated wheel arches made from lightweight, durable and moisture-resistant EPP material.

Tested quality

At Hobby, we place great importance on build quality. That’s why Hobby vehicles are equipped throughout with ventilation systems, thermal management solutions and insulating materials. In addition, every model undergoes independent climate chamber testing before it reaches the market – ensuring it meets Hobby’s high quality standards. A key part of this process is the heat-up test in accordance with DIN EN 1646-1:2018-04. During this test, the vehicle is exposed to extreme temperatures of -15°C for several hours, after which it is heated using the standard heating system. The goal is to reach a comfortable onboard temperature of +20°C within four hours. The water supply system is also tested for functionality, and a thermal imaging camera is used to identify areas of high heat loss inside the vehicle.
Following this, the vehicle is subjected to a detailed inspection both inside and out. Particular attention is paid to the temperature difference between the interior and exterior, as well as any possible damage or deformation to the bodywork or furniture. Only once a model has successfully passed all tests multiple times is it approved by Hobby for sale.
